Medical Equipment
Biobed: An orthopedically-designed, raised hospital bed. The biobed is equipped with sensors that monitor vital signs. There are accessories that work with the biobed that can function to take images and/or administer treatment. Biobed have a display, typically near the head of the bed which gives the patient's current vital signs, and any other information the physician has programmed the screen to display. Hypospray: A handheld device that uses air pressure to administer medication subcutaneously and/or intravenously.
Medical Tricorder: In 2389 Starfleet's standard use tricorders also function as Medical Tricorders and can be operated with one hand, as there is no need for the additional medical probe seen in older models. In general medical use the tricorder's range is approximately three meters. When using the device for more accurate medical diagnostic purposes recommended range is one meter.
Neural Imaging Scan: A scan of a patient's central nervous system. Provides detailed information regarding injuries, diseases, health of a patients brain, spinal cord, and all synaptic and neurological pathways. Ocular Implant: An artificial eye used to replace a damaged or nonfunctional natural eye, consisting of three major components: a variable-focus anterior segment, photoreceptors, and an optic nerve implant, all contained within a scleral shell. The photoreceptor layer can be customized for the patient's needs. A standard unit receives impulses through the visible light spectrum, although infrared and ultraviolet capability is available. By 2389 ocular implants offer a range of vision similar to that of a natural eye, offer full range of motion via myoneural connection to the existing extra-ocular muscles, and are cosmetically identical to the original.
Regenerators:
- Dermal: Handheld device which stimulates the rapid growth of epidermal, dermal, and hyperdermal layers of skin. Indicated for use in minor to moderate lacerations and abrasions and for use to reduce scar tissue.
- Muscular: Handheld device that stimulates growth and repair of muscular tissue. Indicated for surgical repairs of moderate to severe muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries. Off label use to speed up recovery of minor injuries.
- Osteo: Handheld device indicated for use in bone and cartilage repair. Minor stress fractures may be treated by such an instrument in the field without requiring surgical intervention. However, more complex fractures may require surgery and further care.
Stasis Unit: An emergency device that will place a patient in stasis when the patient cannot be stabilized and necessary medical treatment is not readily available. Biological functions are significantly slowed, and the patient is unaware of the passage of time.
