Personal History | Killian Archer Jones was born April 24th, 2355 to parents Jack and Farrah, a Starfleet Commander and a doctor respectively, on one of the Human-based colonies on Rigel IV in the Beta Quadrant. Five years later they were joined by Killian’s younger sister, Poppy Marie. Growing up was done so under strict tutelage with being taught how to walk, talk and even interact with other people was controlled. The majority of this came from Jack who believed that if you were brought into this world soft and sheltered, you’d be chewed up and spat out and no one would give a shit about you, so you had to learn about the real world the hard way instead. And that’s exactly what he did with Killian. Jack was always softer with Poppy and allowed her more freedom to play, to be artsy and creative, and just be, whereas Killian was trained in various martial arts and self defence, negotiations and debating, and basically anything that he could do to mould his son into the perfect little soldier. Killian hated it and started to resent his father as he got older, often rebelling and paying the price for it by being physically disciplined. The times spent with his mother during his adolescence showed a softer, more trusting and relaxed side of Killian, and he was just a kid who enjoyed painting, drawing, playing the family piano, and even just reading. With Farrah, whenever she was there, Killian was allowed to be himself and be the sensitive young boy who respected and loved everyone which, in time, caused him to prefer spending time with his mother and sister over his father. When he became a teenager, Killian was sent to a private all boys boarding school from the ages of 13 to 18. True to what Jack had taught him as a child, he began getting into fights and became his grades bully, often receiving the more severe discipline from the teachers and headmaster and was eventually threatened with expulsion from the school. Even though he was behaving badly, Killian’s school work performance was high and he excelled at Mathematics, track and field and some of the sciences. The specialist subjects of basic linguistics and xenolinguistics were also excelled at. After school had finished, Killian kept up his fitness by attending the gym twice a day, sticking to the martial arts and the running program that had been developed to grow with him as he got older. In spite of his fathers wishes, Killian decided that he was training to join the Marines. He had his first real girlfriend, Laura, by the time his 21st birthday came around and she was there to witness first hand how Killian was treated by his father versus his mother and sister. She pleaded with Killian to just leave the house, leave his father and move in with her, away from it all. Killian would go on to tell her it wasn’t that simple to just simply leave, but he did so anyway, and it was the best decision he would ever make. This resulted in a fist fight between Killian and Jack, with Jack being furious and banning him from the house and threatening to kill his son if he ever stepped foot on the property again. That was perfectly fine with Killian. Killian was accepted into the SFMC where he would attend recruit training at Pariss Island, passing with flying colours before attending SOI Alpha for Advanced Training. It wasn’t long before he received word that he was accepted into the Officer Candidates School through the Enlisted Commissioning Program. Throughout all of this training, Killian and Laura had broken up but still remained friends and she attended all of his events without any questions, as did his mother and sister. The simmering rage for his father led Killian to effectively remove Jack from his life. Fast forward to the age of 28 and having received his promotion to 2nd Lieutenant, Killian met the woman he would eventually call his wife, Evelyn Landry, on shoreleave at a hospital where she patched him up after he managed to get into a fist fight with someone and required medical attention. Her dark blonde hair, her blue eyes, her smile and laugh: he was infatuated as soon as he saw her. Killian knew from there that he would have to straighten his life out if he was ever going to get a chance with her; she was so far out of his league it wasn’t funny. Eventually, Killian managed to get her to go out with him and become his girlfriend. After shoreleave, Killian was on routine patrol with his unit at the request of his CO. It was meant to be just a regular patrol while the base got set up but an unseen explosive device buried in the ground was set off and it almost cost Killian his life, leaving him with major facial injuries from shrapnel and three of his team dead. He was rushed into surgery and the lower part of his left eye socket, part of his lower jaw and some teeth were all shattered and replaced. He was placed on medical leave during his painful recovery and Evelyn stayed by his side. As a result, Killian developed a mild case of PTSD and became sensitive to loud bangs and noises, flinching when even just a pot was banged on a counter. He also started to see the occasional black or white spots when his injuries started to ache again. In 2384, when he eventually returned to active duty with a mission in the Beta Quadrant, Killian proposed to Evelyn at a local carnival in front of some of their friends and thankfully, she said yes. They were married shortly after, with a small number of people in attendance including her parents and siblings, his mother and sister, and some of their friends both inside and outside of Starfleet. Their son, Oliver Logan Jones was born the next year and was the blessing that both of them had been wishing for. Finally, Killian had the family he’d always wanted and vowed to Evelyn and himself that Ollie would grow up in a loving family and experience none of what Killian went through as a child. In 2387 upon reassignment to the USS Marybelle as a 1st Lieutenant, tragedy struck. On the latest mission and in transit to a Federation planet, a wormhole appeared out of nowhere and sucked the Marybelle through, breaking the ship in two and scattering it on an uninhabited non-Federation planet on the other side with no communications back to the other side. Killian had woken up to find himself thrown out of a hole in the side of the saucer section with a broken wrist, multiple contusions to his head and body, and Evelyn and Oliver were nowhere to be seen. After frantically searching for his wife and child, he managed to find Evelyn barely hanging on with a broken tree branch stuck in her stomach and was bleeding out quickly with no hope of making it back to some medical help. When he eventually found Ollie, the child had already suffered major injuries and had passed from them. This accident broke Killian and he would seemingly never recover from it. TBC... |
