Description:

The Spartan Class Runabout was designed to be the replacement to the highly successful, yet aging, Danube Class Runabouts. The vessel is larger than the Danube, and thus is expected to survive longer in a crisis than the Danube. One main advancement on the Spartan, is the inclusion of an advanced sensor/communications array, mounted on the dorsal amidships hull. This array extends both the sensors and communication ability of the Spartan by at least three light hours. As it it still a new design, Starfleet is deploying them in limited numbers around the fleet. For a ship the size of Astrea, one Spartan Runabout was provided, replacing two of her standard Danubes.
