Sibling check in time - Part 2

Posted on Wed May 29th, 2024 @ 11:47am by Lieutenant Eirly Andersen

873 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Side Plots
Location: Deck 6 - Eirly's quarters
Timeline: The evening after "A good morning beautiful day"

Kasper held his hands up in defence, "Okay, okay. I get it." He then put them down and added, "I never really liked her anyway. So, have you told this mystery man about your past yet? Or is that a topic you're saving for later?" He wasn't trying to be snarky about it, he was just more curious than anything.

"We've literally only spent a couple of nights together and we've been doing other things besides talking about our past relationships." Eirly rolled her eyes again and she was starting to get annoyed now, "Anyway. Different topic. Even though you're wearing that shit-eating grin, you look like crap." She frowned, knowing that her brother clearly wasn't taking care of himself like he was meant to. "Have you been working more than you should be again? I thought you were going to be cutting back?"

"I'm fine," Kasper nodded in annoyance, mostly to get his sister to shut up. He honestly did appreciate it when she was concerned and he could always feel it deep in his soul when something was wrong with her too or he always knew what she was thinking, maybe it was just a twin thing. "You know you don't need to worry about me…"

"You know just as well as I do that I do need to worry about you, it's part of my job." Eirly admitted, moving to go and sit on her bed, "You, Leif and Gunnar. But speaking of them, have you spoken to them lately?" She looked over to the picture of all four of them a few years back when they were on holiday together last in South America and she couldn't help but smile. "I tried to get in touch with Leif but it kept coming back with 'Not available'. He never mentioned about any upcoming missions or anything?"

"I haven't spoken to Mother or Father, but I have spoken to Leif and he said that they're doing well, and so are he and Gunnar too. They asked about you as well, so expect some form of communication or another from someone." Kasper replied, leaning back in the seat he'd now taken, "Don't know why he wouldn't be available? Maybe you've done something you don't know about?"

"What else is going on, Kas?" Eirly quirked an eyebrow after she noticed the shift in his tone, "What's happening?"

"I may or may not be in a relationship with someone new… And before you ask, she's not one of your friends. I learnt that from dating Mia." Now it was his sister's turn for her jaw to drop: usually, he told her everything as soon as they happened.

"I told you not to go there." Her jaw drop turned into a smirk. "But go on."

"She's brunette, brown eyes, about your height, with a killer smile and personality to match." That sounded exactly like Mia so Eirly rolled her eyes. "And before you say it, I'm over Mia. That was like three years ago. Her name is Kaia, and we've been dating for the last couple of weeks. We met at an open mic night in one of the lounges, she's in the Science department, and you'd actually really like her." He got up and walked over to the replicator to get a coffee and then came back.

When it came to Mia, Kas had fallen head over heels for her: following her around, always trying to talk to her and hang out with her, always trying to get more information out of his sister about her. So Eirly found it amusing that he was 'over her' so quickly. "jeg kalder tyr" She said with a smile. "But if she's as nice as you say she is, then I guess I can't wait to meet her. And I'll be sure to let Mia know as well."

"You know I hate you sometimes, right?" Kas laughed as he sipped the coffee. "But anyway, I just thought I'd check in and see how you were doing with your new posting. I don't get to see or hear from you very often these days, and I missed my little sister."

"Well this little sister is tired and has an extremely busy schedule coming up, including shift in a couple of hours, so she needs to go and get some sleep." Eirly responded as she got up off the bed and started to get it and herself ready for sleep. "But it has been nice catching up again, maybe at some stage I'll actually be able to see you, or the boys again," she said softly.

"Yeah, yeah, maybe it'll happen one day when we're all planetside again." Kas admitted with a disappointed nod as he almost drained the cup. "I'll let you go then, Ly. Have a good sleep, don't do anything I wouldn't do, and I'll chat to you another night." The video zoomed out slightly and he made the kiss goodbye motion, "Love ya, sis."

Eirly mirrored his kiss goodbye, "Love you too, Kas. Good night."

The screen clicked off, letting silence fill the room, so she turned the rest of the lights and settled into bed for the rest of the night.
