Mission: Gone, Without Ever Knowing the Way
Location: USS Astrea
Timeline: MD -2, Shore Leave Day 5

T'lenn closed the comm link with Commander Winters. She had just been ordered to report back to the ship, that she was now assigned to an extended away mission that would leave in less than 5 hours. She walked back to the outdoor table at the restaurant where she and Jason were sharing a late lunch.

She stood at the table rather than taking a seat right away, taking in a deep breath. "I have to go," she said softly as she sat down, perching on the edge of the chair.

Jason's smile faltered as he asked, "What do you mean? What's going on, sweetheart?"

"Just an away mission. I'll have more details with my orders once I get back to the ship, I'm sure. I am told to expect at least a few days before we rendezvous with Astrea, but I leave tonight," T'lenn explained. "I apologize that our time is being cut short."

Sighing softly, Jason was silent couple beats, then nodded. "We both know that it's part of our jobs." He signaled for the waiter and asked for the bill. After it was paid, he stood and held our his hand to his fiancé. "C'mon, let's go pack, so we can head back up to the ship together. I might as well use the time to catch up on reports and getting the rest of my newborns loaded up."

"Are you sure you can't find a way to enjoy your time down here without me?" T'lenn asked as they walked back to their room.

He shrugged and shook his head. "Honey, it wouldn't be as much fun without you with me." He reached out and gently squeezed her hand, keeping things light, as there were other people around them. "Besides, like I said, I've got a fair amount of work to take care of. I am a department head, remember?" He chuckled softly.

"You consider time with me to be 'fun'?" T'lenn asked. "I cannot say that it is an adjective that I would have guessed that many Humans would use to describe my personality."

Jason grinned proudly as he replied. "T'lenn, sweetheart, you are the one person that I have the most fun with, and I'm not just referring to our intimate play either. I feel more alive with you than with anyone else. You are not just my lover and fiancé....you're my best friend."

"You have brought out aspects of myself that I do not know that I would have ever uncovered were it not for you," T'lenn responded. "I don't believe I have appropriately expressed my gratitude. You planned a very lovely time for us here. I am sorry that I seemed skeptical of the indulgence at first. It was a wise decision to have some time away."

Jason looked at T'lenn with an expression that showed how much he loved her. Even with his artificial eyes, the emotion was very apparent. "T, I am very happy that we were able to have this time. I am looking forward to building our life together and being able to spend even more time with one another."

"I believe our next step should be to meet one another's families. We did not discuss whether we should try to visit Earth or Vulcan first. Or if if we should wait to see if our schedule opens up for a time to receive visitors," T'lenn stated as they approached the hotel lobby.

Jason thought about it for a moment, then replied. "Perhaps, we see where we are the next time we are on r&r, whichever one we are closer to, we go there first?" He took a breath, then continued, "And as for having visitors, I'm ready for it whenever you are, my love."

"Are you nervous?" T'lenn asked, noting the change in Jason's breathing. "There is no need to rush meeting one another's families. We can certainly... take our time."

The pair entered the lift that took them to their room.

In the privacy of the lift, Jason moved closer, putting his arms around T'lenn's waist as he looked into her eyes. "Of course I'm nervous. I want to make a good impression with your family. I'd hate for them to think that I wasn't good enough for you."

"I did not figure you for the nervous type," T'lenn replied, turning her head slightly so that she could look at him sideways. "I thought it was agreed upon that you are perfect for me."

He grinned as he replied. "Oh, don't get me wrong, when it comes to you and me, I know we are perfect for one another. However, as I don't know your family, I have no way of knowing how they would feel about our pairing." He took her hands into his and spoke with sincerity in his voice. "I love you so very much. I just don't want to do anything that will embarrass you in your family's eyes."

The door to the lift opened and they both turned to leave the lift and head back to the room. "It is somewhat ironic that you are nervous about embarrassing me in my family's eyes. To be embarrassed is illogical. I believe my family agrees with that sentiment as well."

Jason dipped his head as they walked to their room. "Then I shall persevere to keep my Human nerves in check, when we do visit your family." After opening the door, and allowing T'lenn to enter first, Jason followed, then gently pulled her to him once the door was closed. In a heavy whisper, he added, "However, when in private, you will still receive all of my savage Human passion, my love." He then kissed her deeply.

T'lenn wrapped her arms around him kissing him back with as much passion. "Do not underestimate the savagery of a Vulcan," T'lenn cautioned him as she pulled away and took a deep breath.

"I am not sure if I will need to make any preparations for the mission, so I think we should head back quickly, so I can review my orders. Once I've prepared, we can use any time remaining to spend together," T'lenn suggested.

Smiling softly, Jason nodded. "You're right, sweetheart. Sorry. Heh." He then released his hold on her and stepped aside, allowing her to head to the bedroom. "I'll start collecting our things that are out here."

After ensuring their things were carefully packed, T'lenn and Jason made their way back to Astrea by way of transport. Jason walked T'lenn back to her quarters and waited while she read her orders. After she had reviewed them she stood up from her computer terminal.

"You can review them if you like. I'm sure your security clearance is higher than mine. It is a covert mission on Freecloud, but my role will just be for support and scientific analysis if it is needed. Lieutenant Cyn and Commander Winters are in command."

Jason nodded as he listened. He had no need to read the orders, as he trusted T'lenn. "And when do you have to report in for this away mission?"

"We leave in five hours, but I am to report to Sickbay in two hours for cosmetic adjustments. For this mission I will be made to look Romulan," T'lenn explained.

"Two hours, huh?" He asked, a mischievous look on his face as he reached out and pulled her closer to him. He started to gently kiss the side of her neck, he whispered, "Let's not waste a single second, then."

"Efficiency is logical, Lieutenant. Savage Human passion, less so," T'lenn replied in a collected manner though she tilted her head, exposing the part of her neck that he was kissing more fully to him.

****Fade to Black****

Checking the time, T'lenn placed a hand on Jason's cheek and kissed his lips, before turning over to get out of bed. Jason stayed in T'lenn's bed, barely covered by a sheet, watching her get dressed. "I don't have to tell you to be careful, do I?"

"You do not, but the sentiment is appreciated," T'lenn stated pausing to look at him. "Would you like for me to try and stop by before I leave, or would you prefer to remember me like this?" She asked.

He smiled at her, a loving expression on his face as he replied. "That's okay, honey. I'd rather you be as focused on the mission as possible. That way, there's less chance for things to go wrong." He climbed out of bed, the sheet falling away, revealing his nude body as he stepped closer. Reaching up, he gently cupped her face with both of his hands. "Of course," he said in a whisper. "Should someone be foolish enough to cause you any pain, I will rain fire down upon them." He leaned in and kissed her lips softly. It was a kiss that promised much more in their future.

T'lenn pursed her lips and arched an eyebrow. "You do not think I would have already taken care of that," she challenged. "I am capable of neutralizing you right now. Particularly in your condition." She almost sounded like she was being cheeky.

Jason smirked playfully at T'lenn as he replied. "And is that what you want to do to me? Neutralize me?" He arched his right eyebrow and grinned suggestively.

"I'm just letting you know that I will be okay," T'lenn stated gently. She looked around her quarters which were uncharacteristically in disarray because of the quick change in plans.

"I must go. I do not want to keep the doctor waiting," she reminded him. "I do love you." She held her palm up facing him, her middle two fingers parted, into what humans had come to call the Vulcan salute.

Jason returned the salute, then gently grasped her raised hand with his. "I love you too. I will see you when the mission is concluded and you are safely back here with me."
