Mission:
Shore Leave & Ship Repairs
Location: USS Astrea Medical Bay
Timeline: MD 4, 1500 Hours
Fulvia let out a sigh as she leaned back in the medbay reception chair. It felt good to be back in a Starfleet uniform after months of undercover work. She could relax no longer having to have the looking over one's shoulder feeling. Now she just needed to get back in her normal skin. As fun as it was pretending to be an Orion she longed to be back in the human skin of her Magna Roman heritage.
So now she was waiting feeling rather amused at the looks she was getting.
Charlotte walked into the reception area and smiled at the woman that she'd met on a hike during shore leave a few days prior. Not Vanaa, after all. Turns out that Lieutenant Xalanth had found one of his spouses - mates - as he called them on Barisa Prime, only she had been disguised as an Orion.
"Fulvia - You ready to come back?" Charlotte asked.
The disguised manga Roman nodded as she stood up. " Yes as fun as undercover work is i'd very much like to be in my own skin again."
"I bet you are," Charlotte agreed. "Right in here," Charlotte said pausing at an open door to a private room. She held an arm out indicating for Fulvia to walk in first.
Fulvia nodded and followed. " How's my husband been handling the crew?" She enquired as she took a seat on the biobed.
Charlotte reached for a PADD and entered the information to bring up FUlvia's medical profile, and then placed it on an interface at the head of the biobed, and traded the PADD for a tricorder.
"I wouldn't know really. The hike was the first time, I had met him. I don't interact with security too much unless they are in here for treatment, and I'm pretty sure when he arrived, I was wrapped up in a pretty involved case here and didn't get out much," Charlotte said as she ran a quick scan.
"How long have you been undercover like this?" Charlotte asked.
"About four months by federation standard time. Worth it for giving the syndicate another bloody nose." The intel officer grinned clearly proud of her work.
"Vitals are all good. So, what are we doing today?" Charlotte asked? "Removing all of the modifications and taking you back to your original appearance? Does that sound right?"
Fulvia nodded before replying. " Got it in one. We often start with the compound that kills the fake skin layer. "
"That's the plan," Charlotte confirmed. She handed Fulvia a loose fitting shirt and pants made of a paper thin material. "I'll have you change into this and lay down on the biobed," Charlotte said. "Computer privacy screen," she announced, and a modesty screen appeared around the bed with enough room for Fulvia to easily get changed.
" Will do." Fulvia said as she began to disrobe from her uniform which she left in a neat pile before changing. The last thing she did was remove her bonding bracelet running her figures along the two gems representing her daughters.
"Okay, if you want to get comfortable, this part should take about ten minutes or so," Charlotte told her. She typed in a command on the biobed, and at the foot of the bed on each side the sides of the bed opened, releasing the equipment which was a narrow semi-circle, that once activated would glide along the bed restoring Fulvia's skin to it's natural peach glow.
"You've probably done this before," Charlotte said. "I can give you an analgesic before we start if you like. Some describe no pain at all, others say it feels like a minor sunburn for a brief moment. It's totally up to you."
" I've been through it before my friend. " Fulvia reply came with a smile on her face.
Charlotte reached for a hypospray, and showed it to her. "Yay or nay then?" She asked with a smile.
" Yay." Fuliva replied giving her a thumbs up.
"Good choice," Charlotte responded. She pressed the hypospray to Fulvia's arm, just near her shoulder. "Okay, let's lose some of that green shall we?"
Charlotte activated the biobed's advanced dermal regeneration equipment, and the arch over the foot of the bed came to life, gliding up toward Fulvia's feet. Once it detected her skin, it emitted light beams, first a soft shade of yellow, followed by a soft blue, then the two lights worked simultaneously, the yellow one step ahead, removing the green pigmentation, and the blue regenerating the damaged dermal layer back to its original state almost immediately. Nurse Dawes kept a close eye on the process, circling the bed, watching her tricorder and the information on Fulvia's vitals and progress that the biobed was projecting.
"You're doing great," Charlotte said as the regenerator approached her hips. "How are you feeling?"
" I can manage. I grew up in the manga Roman Colosseum. You had to learn to tolerate pain being a gladiatrix." Fulvia said gently breathing in and out as the machine did it's work. " Then there was my two girls."
"You didn't use conventional pain management for childbirth?" Charlotte inquired. She was surprised, but her bedside manner did not let that show.
" With my second and not by choice. " She explained. " The station we were on suffered a complete power failure. Thankfully i had T'para and Leani with me. T'para a trained doctor and Leilani was able to enter my mind and help dull the pain. Thankfully she came quickly. "
"At least that's something. More power to you, sister," Charlotte commented. "I know many women did it for centuries, and some still choose completely natural childbirths, but everything I know about Human childbirth is that we are one of the luckier races with one of the more painful experiences. I'm sure it was worth it in the end to hold your baby daughter."
" It was. She takes after her father just like all of them. " The tone fo Fulvia voice showing how much she missed her daughters. " Do you have any children?" She politely enquired.
"No, not yet. I haven't reached that point of settling down and finding someone to start a family with yet," Charlotte answered. "I'd like to someday, but I'm not in a particular rush or anything. I figure when it happens it happens," she said whimsically.
"I'm sure you'll find someone. I never thought I'd find someone till I met Xalanth." Fuloiva replied holding up her hand to see her normal skin complexion was back.
Charlotte turned off the regenerator, sending it back into it's casing underneath the biobed. "I'm going to adjust the bed here so that you're sitting up a little bit, if that's okay," Charlotte warned her before starting the adjustment.
"So how did you two meet?" The nurse asked.
" Believe it or not i was undercover," Fulvia replied with a smirk. " I was undercover as a lounge singer in a bar that was the meeting ground for a group of gorn pirates. Starfleet sent in a second and guess who was the closest thing they had on hand who looked like a gorn?"
"Surely they weren't trying to pass him off to other Gorn as one of them?" Charlotte asked, putting a hand on her hip looking at Fulvia in disbelief.
"Yup in walks Xalanth dyed green doing his best Gorn impression. Bless him he tries but he's never been good at undercover work. His species finds it hard to lie. "
"I'm not sure the Gorn are who I'd want to be risking that disguise potentially going wrong with," Charlotte commented. "How'd that work out? Obviously well enough for the two of you, but..."
" The mission ended up being compromised due to a corrupt officer in the fleet. We had to bail and walk halfway across the planet to an evac shuttle. I took a slug from a gorn rifle, the wound turned infected. " The manga roman replied pushing slightly before carrying n.
" Xalanth carried me out of it for half of it. I fought I was going to die a few times. I had a fever so bad i thought my goddess was talking to me. If it wasn't for Xalanth I wouldn't be here. "
"That is quite a how-we-met story," Charlotte remarked. "Gorn weaponry is certainly no joke. Especially if you don't have a hospital nearby."
"So, these pheromones look like a good time, but I'm guessing Starfleet wants us to take them out?" Charlotte said jovially as she pulled a table over with a kit on top.
Fulvia let out a grin as she replied. " They are indeed a good time, but Starfleet does want them removed."
Charlotte took a position on Fulvia's left side. "If you could just put your right arm on your left shoulder for me, they tend to tuck these under the teres minor, that'll give me perfect access." Charlotte took out an instrument that looked like a boxier version of a hypospray while she waited for Fulvia to get into position.
Fulvia did so putting her right arm onto her left shoulder.
"This will just lock onto the implant and transport it into here," she said tapping the attached casing, as she stepped into place and pressed the device against the skin behind Fulvia's armpit. "It might feel little strange. Like a release of pressure you didn't even realize was there, if you even notice anything at all."
Fulvia nodded closing her eyes and thinking the gladiator's prayer through in her head as she felt the sudden realse of pressure in her muscles. " Is it out?" She enquired.
"Yup, got it. Let's get the other one," Charlotte stated. "Are you going to be sticking around a while?" She asked.
" I sure hope so. " The magna roman said as she swapped over the arms. " I've been away from my lizard and the rest of our family for far to long."
"Well, good luck," Charlotte said, giving Fulvia an empathetic look. "I hope it works out." She pressed the device against Fulvia's skin and within a few seconds she had the second implant.
"Well that takes care of those. Anything else you need today?" Charlotte asked.
" Other boxing up the implants so i can get them back to intel nothing i can think off. " Fulvia said sterching slightly as she looked at her skin now back to normal. " You've done a great job."
Charlotte popped off the case that the medical device had transported the implants into and handed it to Fulvia before putting the device away. "There you go. If you think of anything, you know where to find me," she added with a smile.
" I will. I'll see you around Charlotte." Fulvia said heading for the doors.
"Hope to," Charlotte answered before putting the room back the way she found it.
