Mission: Side Plots
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: BACKPOST: During Ataran Mission

Dekon Lera was the civilian holistic medical provider assigned to operate Astrea's Holistic Health Services facility located on Deck 7. The facility was next to a full service salon that provided a variety of massage services. There was a hydroponics bay nearby as well, with dedicated space for the health services botany team to grow medicinal herbs and other plants. Dr. Dekon had requested a meeting with Astrea's head medical staff to see about coordinating care for certain patients.

Lera walked into the sickbay she was early for a meeting with the Medical staff so she took a seat. She looked over her PADD at the notes she'd made on the supplies she would need. She also needed to look over the files of the patients who wanted to transfer to her careā€¦ This could be tricky depending on the doctors involved.

J.R came out of his office, moving gracefully and catlike. A small purr from his lips as he saw Lera sitting in the waiting area.

"Ms. Dekon? I'm John Ross McEntyre, Assistant Chief Medical Officer. How do you do?" He asks as he offers a hand in greeting.

"It's Dr Deken." Lera shook the man's hand and smiled. "However you can call me Lera."

"My sincerest apologies. Did you have a good trip out?" J.R. smiles softly, hoping to turn around the conversation and pull his foot from his mouth.

"My trip was fine J.R," the Bajoran smiled. "That's what you go by isn't it."

"It is." J.R. nodded in the affirmative.

Malcolm wasn't scheduled to be on shift yet today, so he came into Sickbay from the main corridor and started his way toward the conference room when he caught Dr. McEntyre talking to a Bajoran near the offices. Malcolm turned to walk toward the pair.

"Hello, you must be Dr. Deken. Malcolm Beckett," the Scottish doctor announced as he approached.

"It's a pleasure," Lera smiled. "I'm here to help coordinate your medical bay with my Holistic practice."

"Of course. If we're going to be discussing patients, we should probably head to the conference room," Dr. Beckett suggested. "I can go find our head nurse Lieutenant Thivi, she's probably in the intensive care unit, we've had a patient back there getting some extra care from the staff."

"That would be a good idea." J.R nodded as he gestured toward the sickbay conference room.

"Would you like any refreshments, Dr. Dekon?"

"Earl Grey tea, please." Lera sat taking a seat.

J.R nodded softly, heading to the replicator and bringing back a cup of Earl Grey and a couple of coffee for himself before setting the Earl Grey in front of Lera.

Dr. Beckett found Lieutenant Thivi working in her office. "Lieutenant Thivi, the Bajoran doctor who is working in the civilian holistic center is here to talk about cases. Are you ready?"

"Ready." The Kelpien nurse stood up with her PADD in hand and followed him out into the conference room. "Doctor Dekon Lera. It's a pleasure to meet you." She said upon seeing their Bajoran guest. "I'm lieutenant Thivi, head nurse - we can most certainly talk cases. I look forward to working with you."

"Let's start with the cases that jumped out at me," Lera smiled and looked to her PADD. "I looked at Ensign Fernis's sleep study results. I believe she could benefit from some herbal meds I developed on Free Haven."

Malcom sat back in his seat comfortably, his PADD resting on the table while he waiting to hear which of his patients might be seeking care with Dr. Dekon. He hadn't really been on board long enough to establish much of a long term health routine with anyone yet. He realized some on board may be looking to her for issues that hadn't even been brough to Sickbay.

"I had considered prescribing a sleep aid or sedative to Ensign Fernis to help her sleep. Exploring other options may benefit the Ensign. Tell me more about the herbal blend." J.R picked up his PADD, going over his notes and Fernis' chart as he listened to Lera.

"Preferrably with some data to back up the efficacy of this treatment you've devised, of course." Thivi added. "You know how things are over here. All the red tape."

"I have a blend of herbs that have been found to bring melatonin and cortisol into balance naturally. The patient would still need to check in for regular scans." Lera explained.

"I don't see any harm in giving that a go. Check in with me with progress reports" J.R said, writing down on his PADD.

"Of course," Lera said. "I'd also like to offer meditation classes for stress and anxiety management. I've found that some patients respond better to meditation than medication.

"You have your own facility, you should be able to offer whatever services you like. I don't think you are going to get any objections from anyone here," Malcolm replied. "I'm sure we'd be happy to even make recommendations for some of our patients to attend if you'd like to keep a schedule with us."

"Excellent," Lera responded. "I'll do that. This meeting went better than I'd hoped. I appreciate everyone's openness to incorporating natural methods into your practice." Lera stood up to leave, satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. "I'll keep sickbay updated with our wellness classes."

"Sounds well then," Malcolm said cheerfully as she saw her way out.
