Mission:
Shore Leave & Ship Repairs
Location: Barisa Prime Space Station
Timeline: MD 1, 1200 Hours
"I hope Dr. Siv isn't too suspicious that two of her doctors are missing in action," Remy commented her first officer as they walked to greet the new Chief Medical Officer at Docking Ring One. A lot of the crew had already left the ship for shore leave, though there will still quite a few who seemed to be gathering their things and making preparations.
Maxun shrugged slightly as he walked with his Captain. "Well, we are in spacedock, undergoing repairs. It shouldn't be too odd to have a reduced staff."
"True," the captain agreed. "Hopefully there aren't a lot of questions before they return."
The starbase that the Astrea was docked at was full of activity when Jezra's shuttle finally docked. A slightly exasperated sigh escaped them before beginning the process of navigating to her new ship. It seemed like it was the peak visiting hour, judged solely by the sheer number of people. As they weaved through the masses, Jezra wondered if it would have been easier to simply transport over with her belongings, but after sitting in a shuttle for so long, the walk was refreshing. Several minutes later, she got to the docking ring and began looking for the correct hatch for the ship.
"I think that's Dr. Siv," Remy said, noting a Trill with short red hair scanning the docking rings.
Captain Johansen stepped out onto the station. "Dr. Jezra Siv?" She projected with a moderate amount of volume to be heard over the crowd.
Someone was calling their name. Jezra looked around, finding someone looking for them, at them. She approached the one with red hair, noticing that the woman was accompanied by someone just slightly taller than her. Once close enough, Jezra replied, "that's me." The Trill was in the standard uniform, barely having enough time to change out of the dress uniform they wore to the ceremony the day before. Their reddish hair was brushed to the side, maintained just enough to keep themselves presentable but trussed enough to hint at somewhat rushed travel.
Maxun smiled politely as the doctor approached. As he was with Remy, he would wait for her to make the formal introductions.
"Captain Remira Johansen," Remy said, "You must be my new Chief Medical Officer. And this is Commander Maxun Spello, First Officer."
"Doctor," Maxun offered his right hand in friendship, his El Aurian senses picking up subtle messages that the new CMO's body was giving off.
With a smile, Jezra accepted the hand offered to them. "Pleasure to meet you both."
"I'm sure you've heard, most of the ship is on shore leave at the moment. We're running a minimal skeleton crew, but while our nacelle is being repaired there isn't much else that can be done on board anyway, so it'll be quiet for a few days at least. We thought we'd take you to lunch if you're interested," Remy offered. "But you should have some time to get out and enjoy Barisa Prime. We won't need you to report for duty until a day or two before departure. The assistant chief has rosters already out for the next couple of weeks."
Jezra gave the Captain an appreciative smile. "That's good to know. It sounds like I'll have plenty of time to get acquainted -and use that shore leave- before the full crew compliment boards. And I won't turn down lunch if you're offering, so long as it isn't shuttle food."
"Shuttle food, surely we can do better than that. We can take a walk toward the promendae and see what looks good on the station, that way we're close to home if you want to get settled into your quarters later," Remy suggested. "You know, I just realized I don't think I've ever had a meal with Commander Spello either. What kind of food do you both like?"
Maxun shrugged as he replied. "I like just about everything. Except for Ferengi or Cardassian fare. In all my years, I've never learned to stomach either." He glanced at Jezra. "I'm El Aurian, by the way. I'm almost 200 years old," he offered with a slight grin.
Jezra made a slight face at the mention of Ferengi and Cardassian food, a reflection of the symbiont's recollection of former attempts to try the cuisine. "I think you'll agree with me --well, with Siv-- then that it hasn't changed since the end of the 23rd century. Siv has been joined for about 122 years now, and those cuisines were an acquired taste back then, too." They paused for a second to think of their food preferences. "Isn't there an Andorian place here? Oshretti's, I believe? It's supposed to have authentic recipes from a family-run business."
"Let's find Oshretti's then," Remy responded. "I've never been. Sound good to you?" She asked turning to Spello.
Maxun smiled and nodded to Remy. "Sounds good to me, Captain. It's been a while since I've had Andorian fare."
As the group rounded the corner, Remy thought she saw a sign in Andorian. "Is that the place?"
Just ahead, a blue sign with a picture of an icy mountain sat above an archway. Across the middle was a series of characters one would recognize as written in Andorian, and on top of that text was smaller, cursive-style text written in English, spelling out Oshretti's. The usual conversational chatter and clanking of dishes from a waning rush came through the archway, seeming to spill out into the rest of the promenade. Accompanying the noise was a wafting scent of freshly-seared meat.
Jezra looked at the sign and nodded. "Aye. It looks exactly like the picture a friend showed me. Apparently their redbat noodle bowl is to die for."
"Let's eat," Remy said casually as the group walked toward the restaurant. "If something comes that highly recommended, I usually have to try it," Remy responded. "We should get in and get our orders in. Doctor, it sounds like you've had a busy schedule lately?"
"If we're off duty, then please, call me Jezra," the Trill insisted as the group headed inside. The place had a blue ambience, partly to reflect the business' roots from the homeworld but also to play into the Andorian experience for tourists. "Fairly busy, yes, especially once I took over the department on the Venture. People tend to find all kinds of ways to visit sickbay," they said with a chuckle. "Our last mission kept us all on our toes, though. Trying to keep diplomatic face while the crew was coming down with a bunch of strange symptoms that ended up being due to the atmosphere on the planet. Everyone is fine, it didn't do anything too serious, but it was a lot of late nights."
Maxun followed them both inside, then spotted a table for them to use. "There's a table in the back." He the led the way.
Jezra followed Maxun to the table, taking a seat when the other two did. "And then yesterday, I went to a ship christening ceremony. Which, thank you for the leniency for this transfer, it really meant a lot," she finished, placing a hand on her chest in sincerity.
"Of course. It wasn't any trouble. You're actually pretty well staffed with physicians, and the research facilities are phenomenal. Staffing wasn't an issue - and you won't find it to be. A lot of very dedicated doctors," the Captain replied. "But a lot of them are in Starfleet to treat patients, help people, have access to great research facilities. A few I think could have taken the spot of CMO, but didn't care to have the rank or the administrative responsibilities full-time. So, we're grateful to have you. Your staff is grateful to have you," Remy added with warm smile.
"Nice spot," Remy nodded to Spello as she grabbed a seat at the table he'd picked.
Maxun dipped his head and smiled softly. "Thank you, Ma'am. I have always had a knack for it." He chuckled softly as he finished speaking.
Jezra smiled at Remy's words. Someone had to do all the medical paperwork. "I saw this was a relatively new ship. How has it been so far?"
Maxun looked over at Jezra and replied, "Well, since I've been here, we encountered a sleeper ship with people from over two thousand years ago, then said individuals launched several missiles at us, causing damage to the ship, which spurred the R and R for the crew, while repairs are made." He looked over at Remy, to see if she wanted to add anything more.
"The refit is spectacular. The ship would have fared better, but it was hit with ballistics from a metal - something we've not encounter before, but it's very reactive. I had an uh incident with it early on, before we arrived to the vessel we had some pieces. It also fused with one of our shuttles. Shields, hull plating, didn't do anything to stop it. Thankfully it was an old ship and they weren't heavily armed."
"The medical and science facilities are impressive, they took a lot of unused space from the Galaxy Class's original design and expanded on the Medical Bay, added more lab space, and places to open up in cases of large scale wounded or sick. Hopefully we won't need those, but if something isn't where you want it, we can talk to maintenance," Remy offered.
"You know that by saying that, you jinx it, right, Captain?" Jezra said with a joking smirk. "I can take a look at the specs and let you know, but as long as something important isn't on the opposite side of the deck, I'm fairly adaptable."
"I'll throw some salt and walk backwards through a door later, scout's honor," Remy responded.
The conversation was interrupted as an Andorian appeared, dropping off three menus and a plate of steamed Shaysha, their only appetizer. He then stood idly nearby, prepared to take their order.
