Mission: The Menagerie II
Location: Remy's Quarters
Timeline: MD 03, (Gone Without Knowing Mission..)

Remy didn't like to leave the Bridge when tensions around a mission were particularly high. She'd always been one to want to be in the center of the action, even before she had become a Captain. Still, she understood that when spent too many hours working without a break that her mental acuities weren't always the sharpest. Especially when the job de jour was to sit around and wait for something to happen.

She'd also learned in command training that moments like these were good opportunities to show trusted officers just that - that you could trust them.

After turning the conn over to delta shift, Remy was alone in the turbolift. After directing the lift to take her to Deck 3, she tapped her communicator. "Captain Johansen to Samuel Winters. Can I borrow your time for a bit?"

Samuel was sitting in his small office, going over a few invoices, when the call from Remy came in. Smiling warmly, he reached over and tapped the commbadge on his tunic. "Captain," he responded professionally, not knowing if anyone else could hear them. "Of course you can, Ma'am. I am currently in my office. How may I be of service?"

Remy grinned. "I'm done for the night, meet me in my quarters?" she replied.

If Remy could see his face, she would've seen Samuel's grin grow brighter. "I'll see you there in about ten minutes. I'll bring some wine."

"See you then," Remy tapped her communicator off as the door opened to Deck 3.

The walk was short to her quarters by design for quick response in an emergency. When she walked into her quarters she stepped out of her boots near the door as was her practice. She almost left them there, as she was also known to do, but instead she picked them up and carried them into her closet and put them away. She started to change into something more comfortable, but then opted for a quick shower first. As the sonic waves carried miniscule droplets of water across her skin and through her hair cleaning away the grime and the sweat from the day she thought about what it would like to soak in a tub full of water again. She knew she could order one, she was the Captain, but she brushed it off as an unnecessary indulgence.

She barely had time to slip on a pair of silky blue shorts and a pink t-shirt before Samuel had let himself in. Not that he would have minded if he'd been there a moment earlier.

"Hey, Beautiful," Samuel said with a grin, as he stood in the doorway, admiring the view of Remy getting dressed. He then moved over to where she stood and leaned down, giving her a loving kiss on her lips.

Remy kissed him back and wrapped her arms around him and felt another layer of tension melt away. "I'm glad you could make it," she said with a tenderness to her voice reserved only for him. "Things are probably going to pick up again soon. I was hoping for some time with you."

After gently placing his hands on her hips, Samuel grinned softly as he replied. "For you? I will always have time. I'm not threatened, in any way, by your job and responsibilities, my love. I know who you are." He then wrapped his arms around her body and held her close, lifting her up off her feet as he did so.

"So you've said," Remy replied as he let her back down to the floor and she nestled her head into his chest. "Maybe this is more for me and less about worrying about you for once." She felt vulnerable saying this. She'd been a tough shell emotionally for him to break through at times, but she was starting to need him.

He held her gently, supportively, against his chest, as they continued to stand there. "Whatever the reason," he replied softly, his deep baritone vibrating in his chest. "Just know that I am always here for you, sweetheart."

"I know. I love you for that," she said pulling away slightly so that she could look into his eyes. "How was work tonight? Were you at the bar?"

He smiled and nodded as he replied. "Yeah, I pulled a few hours earlier, then spent a few hours going over invoices and and order requests." He gazed into her eyes, aa if she was the only other living thing in creation. "What about you? How are things going, with us so close to Freecloud?"

"Well, I wanted to ask you how the crew seemed, if you noticed anything. Nerves, people talking," Remy added. "We're staying out of their sensor range for now, but we've got a couple of unmarked ships out with crew."

Samuel thought about it briefly, then replied. "There has been some talk about being near the planet, questions as to why we are hanging so far back. There have even been a few who've started making plans, on what they would do, if you were to allow shore leave." He then paused a beat, taking in the last thing she had said. "Are you expecting trouble?"

"Shore leave. On Freecloud," Remy repeated dubiously. "They can't honestly think there would be ship-sanctioned shore leave there. Way too many opportunities to get arrested, and we can't even intervene, we're not in Federation Space, no one cares. Where they go when they have their own time to get there is their own business. But, shore leave is definitely not happening."

"Trouble is exactly what I expect here, actually. It's just a matter of time... Kas took his daughter out with him in the Holana. He and a team are running surveillance, since his ship is registered with the Quath'Mar and not the Federation. I feel like I should have tried harder to stop him. It's bugging me now," Remy said almost forlornly.

"You brought wine? We should get into it."

Samuel reached up and gently ran his fingers under Remy's bangs, and guided some loose hairs behind her right ear. He then looked into her eyes and smiled softly. "You worry, because you are an excellent commanding officer, my love. Trust your crew, as they trust you." He leaned in and kissed her gently on the lips.

"Mmm, I love you," Remy said softly before standing up on her tiptoes to kiss him again. "You ignored my suggestion about the wine. Does that mean you have something else in mind?"

When he heard her say those words, clear and total affection filled his face. "I love you too, sweetheart." He pulled her in for another embrace and kiss, before loosening his grip. "And who says we can't enjoy the wine and other activities at the same time?" He gave her an impish grin as he finished speaking.

"Well then, let's get that bottle open." She did a half spin as she stepped out of his arms and toward the bar where he'd set the bottle down. The bar had been a surprise gift from him, not long after they had started dating. She leaned over the bar to grab the bottle opener, oblivious to the way the her blue shorts rode up on her thighs as she reached. She grinned proudly once she had retrieved the bottle opener and quickly removed the cork from the bottle.

"Glasses?" She mentioned sweetly as she started to walk backwards toward the bedroom.

Samuel's eyes has been glued to Remy's butt, as she leaned over the bar. When she stood back up and started backing away, towards her bedroom, he felt a wave of desire wash over him. "Coming right up," he said, the hungry tone in his voice clear as day. He moved over to the replicator and ordered two cobalt blue, stemless wine glasses. After they appeared, he grabbed them and made his way after Remy, who had disappeared into her bedroom by this point.

Remy was sitting on the bed, her back popped up against the backboard, with her legs stretch out in front of her and crossed at the ankles. She was still holding the bottle of wine in her hand when Samuel walked into the bedroom with the glasses.

"Come here," Remy said, her voice dropping to a lower more sensual tone.

Looking at Remy, Samuel gave her a look of hungry desire. "Yes, Ma'am," he said in a lustful voice.

In three large steps, he reached her bed. Kneeling onto it, on her left side, he rotated down next to her handing the glasses, as he took the wine bottle and began pouring.

Remy felt a wave of warmth wash over her as he filled their glasses. He never expected anything from her. He just gave. And she was still memorized by the idea that he had chosen her.

Once their glasses were filled, he lifted his in a toast, as he turned his head and looked down into her beautiful eyes. "To the most amazing woman I've ever known. I love you, Remy."

Remy closed her eyes as she let his words sink in. As her glass met his she responded, "To the most amazing man I've ever known."

She took a sip of the wine and then nestled in closer to him, resting her head on his chest. "Tell me something," she requested with a playful grin as she took another sip from her glass.

He smiled as he gently rubbed her back with the fingertips of the hand that was currently behind her. "What would you like to know, my love?"

Remy's eyes looked up and too the left as she thought of a question. "Mmm. Would you still be here, or how long do you think you would have planned to stay on this ship if I wasn't a factor?"

Samuel made the face of shrugging, then answered. "As I'm here under contract with Starfleet Civilian Operations, I'd still be here for the duration of the contract. As for whether I'd stay here afterwards, I don't know. It all depends on where the journey took me."

"I'd like to be free-spirited like that someday," Remy said wistfully as she changed positions, drawing her legs up underneath her, so that she was sitting on her knees in the bed next to Samuel. She took another drink of her wine.

"Do you think Starfleet will ever get their shit together well enough for me to let it go? Or that I'll ever have had enough of it to walk away?" She looked at him longingly, letting the rhetorical questions linger in the air.
