Xalanth was a happy lizard. Not that anyone would not know that. The red lizard walked through the ship's promenade with what was clearly his daughter at his side. Travla smiled as well as she hovered next to her father her reptilian mouth hanging open as her black betazoid eyes looked at her father. Her small hands held the book she was after as her father gently rubbed her head as he handed a credit chit to the storekeeper.
Peeling away the two headed back into the flow of people though Xalanth pushed as he noticed a face in the crowd “Lieutenant Blackstone?" He asked as he placed the face to one of the ship's new arrivals.
Alex turned at the sound of her name and met him with a warm smile. “That’s me; what can I do for you?” She had been perusing the promenade looking for a set of old Earth style metal scalpels.
" I'm Lieutenant Jg Xalanth in security. We'll be working together on the Astera. " The lizard explained as Travla stood at her fathers side. The small lizard tilted her head to her father her mouth opening slightly as she did so. " It's okay hunny I'll ask," Xalanth said as he looked down to his daughter and back to Alex. " Travla wants to ask if your okay with telepathically communication," Xalanth added as he rubbed his daughter's head effectively.
Alex looked first to Xalanth and then to his daughter. There was a look of distrust buried in her eyes but she nodded after a few long moments.
" Hello." A soft voice echoed in Alex head as the smaller lizard waved. " It's nice to meet you.
" My girl suffers from kazanta syndrome. It happens rarely with Betazoid hybrids, her brain wiring is a little messed up. Her paracortex is rather large and presses onto the rest of her brain. She'll be able to talk just fine when she's old enough and they can correct it, but for now, she has to talk telepathically. " Xalanth explained rubbing his daughter's head assuredly which brought a smile to the young lizards face.
“Kazanta Syndrome; I have handled a couple cases of that before. It is a relatively simple, if precise procedure. Bring her in to me in sickbay some time and I’ll see about forming a treatment plan.” Alex looked over the girl and gave a soft smile. “There are a few things that might be able to help; I bet you’d like that, huh?” She knelt down as she asked, looking squarely into his daughters face.
The small lizard nodded her head forward a few times. " yes i would thank you." She said rather excitedly.
" My first is a doctor on board the ship I'm sure she can get Travla's information and data transferred to you. " Xalanth replied with a smile on his own face.
“That would be excellent; what brings you guys to the promenade?” The question was simple; but Alex knew that sometime the activities of someone in their free time could be very telling.
" Just getting my daughter some books. My family has been separated for far too long so I'm making sure I can spend as much time as I can with them. " Replied the red lizard putting his hand on his daughter's shoulder who nodded as she looked lovely at her father.
“Noble that; She may enjoy 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea if you can wrangle a copy. Perhaps others of Jules Verne’s works as well.” Alex smiled lightly at her own memories of the mentioned book.
" I'll take a look next time we're in a store." Xalanth replied with a smile looking down at his daughter. " I'll have to pick up something for the rest of your sisters won't i." He added his daughter nodding in reply.
“I should allow you to tend to that; I actually have what I came for here,” Alex lifted the small ornate leather bound chest that she had been holding and smiled. “I have yet to get settled aboard; which I think I am fast running out of time to do.”
" Off course we'll get out of your hair as the terrans say. " Xalanth said with a smile. " It was very nice meeting you. "
“Not at all; the pleasure was mine, Lieutenant. I hope you guys find everything you are in search of today.” Alex smiled to them both before turning and heading toward the docking port.
Xalanth smiled as he watched Alex leave his daughter giving her a slight wave before father and daughter turned and headed back into the market.
