1,045 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Artifact or Artifiction
Location: Jupiter Station
Timeline: MD: 0, 11:00 hours

[ON]

Acting Captain Remira Johansen sat in the command chair, the main screen showing the view in space before them, several of Jupiter's moons in the background, as the ship sat still docked at Jupiter station. In front of Remy and to her left was a smaller holographic viewscreen showing flight control as the station as they prepared to leave spacedock.

"Commander, you have an incoming communication from Rear Admiral Downing, requesting on an open channel," Ensign Yates announced. "Very well, main viewscreen," Remy said with a sigh. She was ready to get this show on the road.

The Admiral was standing at a command station when she filled the main screen, Remy instinctively stood in response. "Admiral, to what do we owe the pleasure?" Remy asked formally.

"I have been granted the honor of christening your ship with its new name, Commander Johansen. The Imperator was a name given to this vessel during a time of war and great conflict in the Alpha Quadrant. Some of us at Command didn't feel it fit with the times or its mission. Therefore, with its new look and new equipment, I am pleased to announce the ship is now named the USS Astrea," Downing stated proudly. "I wish you well on your first mission as Acting Captain, Commander Johansen. Take good care of her. Downing out." The screen reverted back to the forward view from the ship.

Next to her, Vila sat, watching the crew work. She was quiet, observing, taking in the scene. Everyone was at their stations, performing beautifully. She glanced towards Science; it was calm. She smiled when Yates spoke. The Admiral appeared, and she nodded along as he spoke. "Lovely name. Old Earth mythology. Nice!"

" Much better name," Ghiram mumbled from the science station.

" I think it's time, Captain," she said. "Let's pop some hoses, shall we?"

"All right everyone, it's time to get out of here," Remy said. "Lieutenant Mundy, status report?"

"All sections report ready, captain. Ready to detach all moorings." reported Mundy.

"Thank you, Lieutenant," Remy resonpoded. "Ensign Cha'joga, have maneuvering thrusters ready," Remy ordered.

"Maneuvering thrusters ready, aye. Course and heading?" The dusky-skinned Klingon ensign seated at the helm console added.

Meanwhile, Commander Winters leaned against a rail in Main Engineering and watched the activity around him. The displays and consoles throughout deck 36 came to life with readings and status updates. Nash stood there with a satisfied grin on his face and his arms folded in front of him. The officers in his department stood watch over the extensive equipment and systems that kept the ship in perfect working order.

"Sir, the Stream is online and running smoothly. If this works...well. I think we'll make history," Thisbe said, looking at her boss with a smile. How exciting! Her first real launch on a REAL starship!

"Deflector is online and prepped for slipstream warp." Ghiram nodded.

“Nash to bridge..warp drive primed and ready. All systems looking good across the board. Can get you to warp speed at your command…..Captain. Congratulations, Remy. That has a nice ring to it.”

"Security and Tactical Systems online. All Security posts manned and operational. Phasers and Torpedoes available at your command, Captain Johansen," Clay spoke from behind the main command seating.

"Thank you, Commander," Remy responded.

Remy hit the comm button. =^= "Bridge to engineering: Are we good to go down there Commander? =^=

“Impulse power available at your leisure once we’re clear of the station. Don’t want to scratch the paint, Captain,” Nash reported.

Remy smiled to herself. =^= "Understood, Commander. Thank you." =^+

Kayto didn't want to miss the undocking and considering he rarely spent time on any bridges, he didn't want to pass up the invite. As the turbo lift slowed, he tugged at the bottom of his jacket to make sure it was crisp before stepping out and giving a couple of nods before finding a place out of the way towards the back and remaining quite, taking everything in.

From her watchpost at the back of the bridge, Tel'im gave the center seat a smile. "Looks like your call, Commander... Exciting, no?"

From her panel she opened the channel to flight control. "Commander Remy Johansen to Jupiter Station Flight Control. We are prepared for you to disengage docking clamps."

=^= "Captain Johansen, this is Flight Control, docking clamps disengaged. The Astrea is good for launch." =^=

"Do it, Captain," Vila said, quietly, from the XO's chair, where she was sat, watching the action, checking the crew's work on her console. They were excellent. She was pleased.

"Ensign Cha'joga, maneuvering thrusters until we're clear of the station, then lay in a course for 2054-mark-4157.036."

"Aye, captain. Course 2054-mark-4157.036." The Klingon's shoulders tensed as they cleared the station and emerged into the endless sea of glittering stars beyond. "We are clear of the station and ready to go to warp when ready."

Just as Shelly stepped onto the bridge, she saw a Klingon tensing up and that made her nervous. She went down to her station and nodded at the Klingon and said, "I can take over from here." Then, she looked at the Captain with a nod.

"Lieutenant Guevera, why don't you come sit next to me," Remy offered, gesturing to the vacant chair to her immediate left. "Ensign Cha'joga just got our course laid in. We don't want to steal all her fun," Remy added winking at the Lieutenant.

Shelly nodded and said, "Understood, ma'am." Shelly then took a seat next to Remy and kindly winked at her as well understanding what she meant.

"Further orders, ma'am?" Vila asked. "Science says it's smooth sailing, at least for awhile." She shared.

"Warp 7, Ensign Cha'joga," Remy called out. "Do it."
