A Good Morning Beautiful Day

Posted on Thu May 9th, 2024 @ 11:40pm by Lieutenant Eirly Andersen & Lieutenant JG Malcolm Beckett M.D.

2,082 words; about a 10 minute read

Mission: The Menagerie: side stories & mischief making
Location: Eirly's Quarters
Timeline: The day after first contact

The following morning Malcolm stirred from a deep sleep, and it took him a few short seconds to realize that he wasn't in his own quarters and to remember why. With a satisfied smile on his face he gently rolled over, hoping to see Eirly still comfortably in bed with him.

Eirly was still asleep quite comfortably next to him, and she was facing him. One hand was placed under the pillow and the other was resting on the sheets in front of her, and her hair was lightly obscuring her face.

Malcolm resisted the urge to move in closer and hold her while she slept, afraid he would disturb her, and instead lazily watched her sleep and wondered what she might be dreaming about, hoping she'd still be happy she'd asked him to stay this morning.

She slowly opened her grey eyes and blinked a couple of times, then se smiled when she realised she was looking at Malcolm, "Hey you," she said quietly, still with a sleepy smile, and reached out to lightly stroke the side of his face and make sure he was really there.

"Good morning, beautiful," Malcolm said, his voice slightly raspy from the morning. He reached over and put an arm around her waist, pulling himself a little bit closer to her. "How did you sleep?"

"If I didn't know better, I'd say I was still dreaming," Eirly replied, her own voice still really quiet and light, and moved herself so that she could feel the heat of his body on hers and how his heart was beating fast when she put her hand on his chest, "I can't believe it's morning.. Last night was fun."

"Yes, it was, wasn't it," he said squeezing her gently as she pulled in closer. He brushed the loose hair from her face, and smiled at her, the look of relaxed happiness that almost always gives someone away after a night like the one they had. "What time is your shift today?" He asked, wondering how much time they had.

"Thinking of leaving me so soon, are you?" She rubbed some of the sleep out of her eyes and yawned a little. Eirly had been making her own little observations about Malcolm and so far she was happily just wrapped up in her own little world with him, with last night being amazing. "It's this afternoon, by the way."

"Thinking of leaving you? That would be silly," Malcolm said, tickling her lightly on the ribs. "How did it get to be afternoon already?"

"Eirly laughed and tried to squirm away from him, "You're playing a dangerous game here," her words echoed from last night and they both knew what happened after that, "If I had a choice, I'd never let you leave." Or was that meant to be his line?

"Me either, but I suppose at some point they are going to make us earn our keep around here, don't ye think?" He whispered nuzzling his nose near her face, and kissing her ear.

"Yeah, you've got a point." She couldn't help but laugh out loud, suddenly feeling very thankful she didn't have to share quarters with anyone. "I could stay here for thr rest of the day, if they let us." Somehow, amongst the laughing and being tickled, Eirly managed to kiss him passionately for a moment before adding, "Breakfast?"

"I'm starving," Malcolm said. "And if it weren't for the pleasure of seeing your bonny face this morning, I'm a bit of a bear without my coffee."

Eirly managed to sit up, pulling the sheets with her to be modest and looked at him with adoration and amusement in her eyes, "I could get used to that. And it's not as if we don't have food to eat either, plus I do enjoy a good sweet coffee every now and then."

"Let me get it for you then. What will you have?" Malcolm asked, holding her behind the neck and giving her a quick kiss before turning to pull on his black boxers and undershirt. Fairly boring, Starfleet issue.

"A caramel mocha please, and one of those little pastries that has the caramel swirl on it." She had to giggle at the sight of him as he put on the boxers, but she more blushed than anything because she was totally gone on him. "You know you don't need the undershirt on, right?"

Malcolm had his arms through the sleeves but hadn't pulled the shirt over his head. He turned to look over his shoulder. "Is that a request? My mom always made me wear a shirt at the table."

Eirly cocked her head in amusement, "I'm sure what your mother doesn't know, won't hurt her, and what if it's breakfast in bed? I don't think a shirt applies here.." She made to move out of the bed and put on the matching strapless bra and underwear from the floor, put them on and then sat on the bed with her legs folded under her and to the side while she waited for him to come back.

Malcolm dropped the shirt on the floor and walked to the replicator to order Eirly's caramel mocha and his own black coffee, and brought back the drinks with the bag of pastries. He set his own coffee down and handed the mocha to Eirly, "One caramel mocha and a caramel swirl pastry, in bed," he announced, fishing through the bag for the right pastry after she had taken her drink.

"You're a beautiful man, Mr Beckett." Eirly said with a smile as she took the hot drink. "I knew there was a reason I liked you from the moment we met."

Malcom had picked up his large thermal mug with Astrea's logo on it and was taking a drink as she spoke, his eyes twinkling as he heard her words. It felt nice to be complimented, if even for small things. Being here with a beautiful woman who seemed so genuine and kind was like a breath of fresh air from his daily life.

Malcolm walked around to the other side of the bed with the bag of pastries. "The moment you say? Well I'm a lucky man then, aren't I?" He said setting everything on the table, and crawling over to put his arms around her waist again, nuzzling her neck.

She arched her neck in response and let out a giggle, but she didn't know what to say. She was still riding that euphoric buzz from last night, so instead she set her hands behind his neck and allowed herself to be pulled in.

"I dunnae want to be a bother, if you have other things going on this week, just say. But I'd like to see you again before Friday if you're free," Malcolm said planting a soft kiss just under her ear.

"You'll never be a bother to me," Eirly replied with a smile, adding a soft kiss to his nose as he pulled back, "And the most I'm probably going to be doing before Friday is harassing one of the kitchens to let me bake some stuff for the team," She laughed at the thought of it, " But I... Actually, I would like to be seeing you more often than just this week or Friday, maybe on a regular basis or maybe most days? Until you get sick of me?"

"I can't imagine that I'd ever get tired of spending time with you," Malcolm responded, pulling his head back so he could look into her eyes. He used that as an excuse to run his fingers through her loose hair again.

She loved it when he played with her hair, "So, we be professional on duty and like this in private or social? Because I like us like this." Then she realised what she had said and laughed while her cheeks reddened, "Wait, did I just inadvertently ask you out? I'm sorry!"

"Well I don't intend to donder about the ship in my skivvies, so this particular part we should probably keep private," Malcolm teased. "But I was already planning a proper date with ye, so clearly I was hoping for a chance to show you off a bit."

Eirly resisted the urge to mimic his accent because it would just be downright terrible again, "A proper date is already yours, you know that, always yours." She leaned to the right a bit to pick up her hot drink without breaking the smile or eye contact.

"And I'd be a fool to not give you one, whenever you wanted," Malcolm said softly as he matched her gaze.

She sipped her drink and kept her gaze on him, "Whenever I wanted, hmm? Don't tell me that..." She liked the way he grinned and smiled at her, and how his eyes were always twinkling whenever he did, "You know, I'd love to show you what home is like, if you'd be up for it some time?"

"Of course," Malcolm said enthusiastically before reaching back for his own coffee and grabbing a random pastry out of the bag. "What hours do they have you keeping?" He asked.

"At the moment, it's Alpha shift," Eirly stole the pastry and took a small bite out of it before handing it back and smiling, "Does that line up for you? If so, I'm all yours for the afternoons and evenings."

"Aye, I'd make whatever work for you. Our shifts work a little different in medical, we can work some unusual hours from time to time, but a good work life balance is important, wouldn't you say?" Malcolm finished his sentence with a wink.

Eirly pushed him back slightly so she could put her now finished mug on the bedside table before returning to sitting in front of him and nodding while she wrapped her arms around his neck again, "Put in the effort and get the rewards, I agree." Then she gave him a quick kiss, "I know about medical hours, my family lives and breathes it, just don't overdo yourself, okay?" She pouted slightly to get her point across.

"As long as the crew doesn't go poking around where they shouldn't and turning safeties off in the holodeck, they tend to be a pretty healthy bunch around here." Malcolm took a deep breath in and put his coffee down so that he could wrap his arms around her again. "You now, you might just be the end of me," he said pulling her in for a deeper kiss before flipping her over so that she was laying on her back and he was hovering over her.

Eirly nodded her head side to side as she weighed up her options with a smirk and a giggle after she opened her eyes from the kiss, "Oh I think I can live with that. It'd be worth it." Then she kissed him back, bent her left leg and knee up on his side so that he could run his hand up and down it or whatever he wanted, and made to move her hair out of the way because it was so damn long.

As Malcolm kissed Eirly back he lowered himself onto the bed next to her, deepening the kiss as he caressed her leg, "You're irresistible," he said in almost a growl. "I was trying to be a gentleman this morning, but I dunnae think I can anymore."

Now it was her turn to be on top of him, similar to what happened a few hours ago before their what could be considered fade to black moment. Reality would be crashing down around them at some point today but it wasn't going to be now, so she leant in and moved her hair behind one of her ears and kissed him again as she said in an accented quiet and suggestive tone, "Then don't be."

Malcolm's unfinished coffee forgotten, Eirly's invitation was all that he needed. "You asked for it," he said playfully, tickling her ribs to regain control, so that he could put her on her back again. Once he had her there, he stopped tickling, and began kissing her neck, and then her collar bone. He ran one hand up her ribcage and into her hair, and kissed the other side of her neck, his breath hot on her skin. The two losing complete track of time for the rest of the day.
