Mission:
Training Exercises
Location: Holodeck 3
Timeline: MD Alpha, After Part 1
Jason, who was bouncing lightly on the balls of his feet with excitement, suddenly called out, "So, we gonna actually run this course, or just stand around jaw-jacking all day?" He grinned playfully as he spoke.
Kas took a deep breath one of the advantages of the holodeck was that scents were far less overwhelming than when he was on a planet. He began to sprint toward a ten-foot chain link fence on the other side was a large salvage yard. Kas jumped and grabbed the top of the barrier did a muscle-up and jumped onto a rusty haul of a land vehicle.
Bella ran to a hole in the fence about thirty feet she ducked under gargled chain links and popped up in the yard, A canine with blue fur began to bark and snarl as she climbed onto an abandoned shipping container.
Bella vaulted over the canine and grabbed the cord fastened to the animal's neck. She quickly pulled the lack out of line so the creature wouldn't be able to reach any of the participants. She climbed another fence and rolled onto a roof. the Latina shook her head seeing Kas swing and obstacles high above with Jason not far behind. Everyone Hud display on the goggle showed Kas and Jason as in the lead.
Kash heeded Bella's advice and stuck with her for now, choosing to duck the fence. He climbed the container alongside her.
Jason ran towards the fence, leaping up onto it as he got close. Once over, he mounted a pile of containers and performed an aerial back flip as he moved to the far side.
"Showing off isn't going to get you anywhere faster but tired. The floor competition is next door," Kash yelled as he and Bella leaped from that pile of containers to the top of a large freight car. They were in a junk yard, and up ahead was more of the same until they were met with another fence.
Kash saw the fence coming. "Which way we going next?" he asked Bella
Jason heard the remark and replied with a monkey leap through a narrow space ahead. "What's the point of doing something, if you can't have fun putting some flair into it?!" He punctuated his words with a quick spider climb, then vault over another set of containers, followed by a summersault and a roll through the next obstacle.
Kash took off after Jason following him on his heels, rolling into the summersault and popping up to scramble through the obstacle behind him. "I'm all for flair, but forward momentum is important," he said with a laugh.
Jason laughed as he continued to hold his lead on Kash. "I dunno, my forward moment still seems to be pretty good!" As he finished, he frog leapt over a space, grabbing a horizontal bar, then swung his legs forward and landed on the next rooftop.
Kas was a few yards ahead of Jason he jumped and grabbed an antenna mounted on the side of a building the metal creaked in protest as he swung and flipped onto the next rooftop. The hybrid saw a tall fence with barbed wire between the runners and the finish line. He took off his shirt and threw it over the wire. then climbed the fence with ease.
When he reached the fence line, Jason leapt up, grabbing the top bar, just under the barbed wire. Keeping his momentum going, he pulls himself up, places one foot on the top bar, then leapt forward, summersaulting forward over the barbed wire.
As he rotated over, his trailing leg got snagged on the barbed wire, causing him to stumble on his landing. Jason removed quickly, but ended up behind Kash now.
Agility was one of Andorian's strengths, and Kash was able to maneuver the barbed wire fence with ease. He jumped from the fence to the balls of his feet and took off at quick pace toward a maze of box style shipping containers scattered across an abandoned shuttle field. He slowed town here, paying attention to the signals he was receiving from his antennae doing his best to not take a wrong turn and wind up at a dead end. The ground was cracked and dangerous in spots with weeds popped up through cracks in the paved surface.
Eirly was behind Kash and Jason, running at a decent pace to not overdo it but still not come dead last. She navigated the cracks and potholes with relative ease and had the foresight to watch Kash and his own movements. Yeah, she wanted to win, but not at the risk of overdoing it.
To get out of the maze at the end the runners were directed to climb a flight control tower where they could reach metal structures from an old power grid that had fallen creating a bridge over the fence.
As he continued hot on Kash's heels, Jason spotted the end of the maze. As he looked and ran, he could see that the holodeck computer had had a structure, possible a powerline tower, collapse atop the fence line, creating a massive climbing obstacle for them to overcome.
As they reached the obstacle, Jason caught up to Kash, and tapped him on the shoulder. "Last one up buys the first round of drinks!" He then sprinted ahead and used his experience free climbing, to get a good boost on the others. Soon enough, he was up and over the structure, in the lead again.
Kas was impressed with his crewmates, Jason and Kash had both overtaken him. However, the race wasn't done.
Kash used the cross bars of the power grid to hoist himself up, jumping, and pulling himself to the next level, losing quite a bit of momentum. When Kash noticed Jason doing more of a free climb and scrambling up, he changed his technique picking up some of the momentum trying to close the gap between himself and Jason.
Kash jumped down and raced toward what he perceived to be the longest dock stretching out into a wide river that didn't seem to have a way around it. At the end of the dock, a barge was moored to it but the barge was still floating about 2.5 meters away. With a running start Kash leapt into the air, landing on the floating barge. He started examining the other ships around him looking for his next avenue to cross.
Jason lost ground on the barges, as when he leapt from the dock, his foot slipped and he hit the side of the hull, just barely catching himself from going into the water. Pulling himself up, he took a beat, feeling the soreness in his chest, certain that he was going to bruise later. He then took off, trying to catch up to Kash, who had gained the lead.
Kash heard Jason hit the side of the boat and started doubling back. "You alright man? Help me get a lifeboat down we can help the others cross with it. If you had trouble with that jump, some might not make it."
The young pilot nodded as he moved to help with the lifeboat. "My damn foot slipped as I was jumping. I'm gonna have a hell of a bruise across my chest later."
"Nothing Sickbay won't clean up for ya," Kash chided as they set to work.
