Mission:
Helping Brunel
Location: USS Astrea
Timeline: MD 15
When the Holana was pulling into the Main Shuttlebay, Remy flashed Eirly a knowing look.
"Why don't I go tell Nash and the family. If you want you can get Brunel's medical team together and let them know what's going on," Remy suggested. "I'm going to need to play damage control here, but if you want to go back with them, I'm sure it will be fine."
"Sounds like a plan," Eirly nodded as she grabbed her bag, slung it over her shoulder and stepped off once the shuttle had landed. There was a lot to discuss with the medical team, which thankfully included Malcolm, so she was going over a plan of how to explain the fact they would have to go off-site to perform the surgery. Surely, they would be fine with it, right?
When she got to the sickbay, Eirly noticed that it was rather quiet and no one was around, not even Charlie or Malcolm. Stepping into the offices, she knocked on the door frame, "Hey you." She smiled and waited for Malcolm to turn around.
Malcolm was smiling before he had time to pop up out of his chair and turn around to see Eirly standing in the doorway.
"My goodness lass. I'm so happy to see you, but have you slept at all since ye left?" Malcolm asked as he crossed the room looking at her with concern. He wrapped his arms around her and squeezed tightly, lifting her slightly off the ground for a brief moment before loosening his grip.
"How are you? How did it go?" He asked.
Eirly simply gave him a tired smile, "I'm all good, mostly just tired. I've had maybe a handful of hours over the last few days. But I'm sure I'll catch it all back up at some point." She gave him a kiss on the cheek before she walked over to the replicator and got herself a water that was filtered and familiar tasting and took to sitting on an available chair. "There's a lot to unpack with everything that happened, and I'll tell you that over dinner tonight, if you're free? But for the moment, there is some information i need to relay to you and the rest of Brunel's medical team."
Malcolm followed her to the guest chairs and sat down on the one next to hers. "I've been planning my evenings so that I could be sure to be free for you the first thing when you got back," he assured her. "You have something for the medical team," Malcolm repeated. "Should I get Dr. McEntyre then?"
She felt her cheeks warm slightly at his sentiment and nodded in reply, "Yep, Dr McEntyre and whoever else has been working on his case, so I would assume nurses Thivi and Charlotte as well? How is Brunel doing, by the way?"
"Aye, the boy is doing alright. We've been administering some treatments to keep him mostly on his feet and he's been able to stay at home," Malcolm said. "He's in here every six hours for his medication and to be monitored, and not as energetic as a boy his age should be. But much better than before."
"That's wonderful news to hear, especially with everything he's already been through. Are you able to call everyone down here?" Eirly replied as she took a sip of the water.
"Aye, of course. Right away," Malcolm said with a wink.
He stood up to tap his communicator, "Dr. Beckett to Dr. McEntyre and Nurse Thivi. Can you both come to my office. Lieutenant Andersen is back, and she needs to speak with Brunel's medical team."
In his office, Dr. J.R. McEntyre bolted up. He had been working on several treatment options and pouring over medical texts and papers, scattered about on various PADDs that were cluttering his desk. He must had fallen asleep because the next thing he knew, his commbadge was beeping, startling him. A loud scared meow from him.
"Mc..McEntyre HERE!! I'M ON MY WAY" He replied, still startled, momentarily forgetting where he was untill he bolted up from his chair and ran, pulling on his lab coat as he did.
Thivi seemed mildly amused, watching him bolt out the doors to sickbay. Hopefully he wouldn't trip along the way, and she'd need to carry him there. Something something impinged a nerve. You never know. She followed him out at a somewhat slower pace.
Malcolm's eyes flinched in amusement at the doctor's startled response. "Hope we didn't wake him up from a nap," he said smiling at Eirly.
J.R arrived a few moments later, having ran his hands through his fur to straighten himself up, and look a bit more...presentable.
"Dr. Beckett. Good day." He greeted everyone with a small smile. "Lieutenant Andersen."
"Eirly's got something for us. I'm hopin' it's good news. Now that we're all here, we're excited to hear what you came up with," Malcolm said. He gestured at the empty seats and took a seat himself.
Eirly took a seat and crossed one ankle over the other as she settled in for the explanation, "So, I'm not sure if you're aware, but myself, Lieutenant Commander Kas and the Captain headed back to Earth on a kind of a secret mission to retrieve some technology that Captain Johansen had been working on before the synth ban came into effect. Something called a positron matrice. It has the ability to help Brunel and the other Atarans."
She continued, "Dr. Rebecca Lange, the scientist behind this amazing technology, has graciously given permission for the surgery on Brunel to happen and for the matrice to be implemented. The only catch is: to do this life saving surgery, it will need to be completed on their ship, the Sentinel. I've managed to talk with the Captain and Dr Lange and they have agreed to let Brunel's medical team go across, along with myself to keep an eye on things, and that means everyone here. Thoughts?" She looked at everyone expectantly.
Somehow, Eirly had managed to shock the Caitian, a dumbfounded expression on his face, his tail still.
He starts to speaks then stops, then starts, then stops.
"You...I..."
He couldn't form the words, holding up a finger for a moment before finally forming words.
"Get your gear, Dr. Beckett." J.R. says to Malcolm as he turns to Eirly. "You and the Captain are going to explain everything enroute to the Transporter. Time is of the most essence and we don't got a moment to waste. Now, Let's move it misters!!" J.R ordered firmly, professionally.
"When do we leave?" Malcolm asked. "Do we know what kind of facilities this ship has? What all do we need to take with us?" Malcolm wasn't entirely surprised that this was how the procedure was to be performed. Taking it off of a Federation ship was a smart idea, but he wanted to make sure they didn't forget anything.
"So," Eirly looked at the cracked face of the watch she normally wore, "It's mid-morning now, and they would be expecting everyone to be across onto the ship by midafternoon for briefings and meetings about what's going to be happening going forward. As for what to bring, that's up to you guys. Given it's a scientific research vessel, they would already have a lot of, if not all of, the equipment you'll be needing for the surgery, so if you can bring all of the research and documentation you've got on Brunel's case, that would be a great start."
"We'll need to figure out what we want to do with Brunel's current protocol in the interim. Okay, I can put some things together," Malcolm stated. "Hopefully surgery tomorrow then."
Malcolm nodded at Dr. McEntyre, smiling at Eirly, and giving her a a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek. "I guess we all better get packing."
