Mission: What We Do With Second Chances
Location: New Sausalito, Standard Orbit
Timeline: MD: 10 0130 Hours

"Commander Razka, take us out of warp. Standard orbit," Remy ordered as Astrea approached New Sausalito.

"Of course," Kas nodded as his hands glided across the console.

"Lieutenant Mundy, see if you can get the Away Team on comms. Unless they are otherwise occupied, I'd like to bring them aboard for a debriefing," the Captain continued.

"Yes captain. Lieutenant Mundy to away team. The captain would like you to return for a debriefing. Please advise your status."

Nevan, sitting to the left of the Captain, felt a bit odd in the chair but turned his auxiliary console to take a look at the scans and see what the status on the ground may be. In truth he was really checking up on Cormus and Grexx, especially after the coded message they'd sent him. He'd done some digging of his own and found him pleasantly surprised to see the operations center setup. In the back of his mind he knew that both of them had to be tired, chances are they hadn't slept much since arrival. "Captain if I may, I'd like to relieve my team of their post when they come up to continue operations below while they're up here, they don't need me to give a status update and I can get a full report once they go back down."

"That's reasonable, Mr. Kayto. I imagine that most of the away team could use a break at this point," Remy acknowledged. "Be ready to get any crew up to speed on what you need from them so they can tag in."

Mundy, not getting any response to his hail to the away team, tried again. "Astrea to away team, respond."

There was some static, then a voice could be heard. =/\=Astrea, this is Spello. We hear you. Do you hear us?=/\=

Remy stepped forward and signaled to Mundy to keep the channel open. "We're getting some interference. Where are you, Lieutenant?" Johansen asked.

=/\=Captain! It's good to hear your voice, Ma'am! Currently, the Civil Ops are planetside with Ensign Zetchurl and Shakal. The rest of us are on the Ataran vessel. We are in geostationary orbit over the proposed site of where their new colony is going to be built.=/\=

Remy looked toward Nevan, "See if you can get your team on a line, Officer Kayto."

The Captain stepped forward and gestured to Lieutenant Mundy to open her line again, "It's 0130 hours, does your team have both shuttles, or does Civil Ops have one with them?" Remy asked.

=/\=I've given both shuttles to the Civil Ops team, so they can begin ferrying down personnel and the tools needed, that can fit in the shuttles, to the surface. Unfortunately, after looking over the Ataran's ship, while it was originally designed to make planetfall to be used as the center of the new colony, I've determined that she has experienced too much stellar weathering over the last two millennium to safely make the transition. The only way to safely get her to the surface, would be to have a squadron of heavy tugs slowly take her down with their tractor beams.=/\=

There was a beat of silence, then he continued, his voice lower, as if he was trying to be quiet as he continued to speak. =/\=One more thing, Captain. The Atarans are not exactly who they claim to be. There is evidence that they are both slavers, and they both experiment on their own people and they view any form of deformity as an abomination. Going so far as to end pregnancies if the fetus is shown to be deformed in the slightest. Have you heard anything similar for the Atarans that stayed on the Astrea?=/\=

Kas straightened in his seat he hated slavers with every fiber of his being, he'd seen the the atrocities that such filth had caused. He kept a neutral expression he had a death grip on the armrest of his seat.

"I'd prefer to get the team back over to Astrea to reconvene and debrief," Remy responded. Still over the open channel Remy continued, "Lieutenant Mundy, can you get a transporter lock on their signals?"

"There is some interference in locking onto the away team, captain." Mundy reported.

Nevan turned and gave a nod to Remy "I've got Grexx on the other end Captain."

A clearer signal came through this time, the Bolian's voice on the other side =/\=Petty Officer Grexx here, Astrea.=/\=

"Officer Grexx what is your team's status?" Johansen asked.

=/\=We've got the operations center setup and in place, a few folks have begun small tasks to get ready but otherwise it's been mostly prep work Captain. Everything has been nice and quiet otherwise.=/\=

"Standby Officer Grexx," Satisfied that the team on the ground did not appear to be in any distress, Remy turned her attention toward the away team still on the Serenity. The captain was not pleased that Spello had sent both of their shuttles down to the surface, leaving them stranded on the vessel, and now with poor comms and transporter interference.

"Lieutenant Cyn, Andersen run some extra scans and diagnostics, and see if you can help make sense of what's interfering with our comms and transporters. "Commander Razka, have someone prepare a shuttle to go get them if necessary."

Kas pressed his COMM. "Razka to Rodriguez, prepare the Holana for launch."

Eirly nodded in understanding and began running a couple of tests, "I'm not bringing up anything at the moment, Captain." She then turned to Lieutenant Cyn, "Anything coming up on your end?"

Cyn glanced up from her display, "Not yet. But space is big. Give me a few minutes."

"Astrea to Lt. Spello, we are having trouble with comms and transporters. I am preparing a team to come retrieve you. Do you copy?" Remy asked over the comm line.

There was some static again, followed by Maxun's voice. =/\=Understood, Astrea, we.....ing by for retrieval."

"Can anyone get a read on whether this comm interference is deliberate?" Remy asked. "Lieutenant Cyn, contact the colony's headquarters and ask them if they've had any issues over the last 24 hours.

Cyn did as instructed, but her call remained unanswered. After confirming her transmission was received by the colony, she tried again. "Captain, they are ignoring my message. Scans of the sector are coming back and I think I've found a possible source for the interference. There is a null signal returning from one of the asteroids. Without a closer look, I can't tell if it's a natural phenomenon or artificial."

"Lieutenant Cyn, launch a Class 2 probe, and see if we can learn anything. Liuetenant McEntyre, continue full sensor sweeps," Johansen responded.

"Probe launched," Cyn confirmed shortly after the command. She guided it towards the asteroid where she wanted a closer look.

Kas rose from his seat and looked to Cha'joga, "Take the helm Ensign."

The Hybrid turned to the Captain, "Permission to leave the bridge? I would like to pilot the shuttle myself."

"Granted, take Lieutenant Andersen with you. And handheld comm transponders to see if we can maintain a better signal on you," Remy stated.

"Yes Ma'am. " Kas nodded, he looked to Eirly. "This way Lieutenant."

Kas headed for the turbo lift.

"Yes sir," Eirly replied with a nod and followed Kas once she had all the necessary equipment with her. "I hope we'll be able to get this signal boosted somehow." She was cautiously hopeful for a good outcome.

Kayto spoke up next "Captain, permission to signal the team on the planet to return as well? I'll have them return under yellow alert."

"I don't want to sound any alarms yet, Officer Kayto, but yes get them back on board," Johansen confirmed.

"Acknowledged ma'am, I'll have them keep their eyes peeled, but stay nice and quiet." Entering the order into his console, he sent a message to Grexx and Cormus to quickly and quietly return to the Astrea with both shuttles, quickly securing any sensitive gear.

At the operations console, Mundy kept an eye on the scanners for any indication of a possible threat to the ship.

"All right, bring our people home," Remy said softly resuming her seat in the Captain's chair.
